Meet the wonderful team at Sherry Leifer Hair Design.
In her salon is where Sherry is most comfortable. Offering classic do’s or the latest trends in hair, Sherry loves the ever-changing hair industry. She keeps busy going to classes and refining her skills. She has a knack for seeing your true individuality and using it as inspiration.
Sherry started her training at Vancouver Vocational Institute in Vancouver, BC. She then moved on to be trained and mentored by her Uncle, Eugene Hydamacka in Quesnel, where she is originally from.
Sherry has also worked at Richard Jeha’s in Vancouver, most notably as a stylist for the BC Lion’s Cheerleaders and the Malkin Bowl Theater Group. After moving to Vancouver Island, Sherry worked at Split Ends in Woodgrove Centre for 3 years before moving on to her 20 year career as an instructor at VIU.
Sherry has run her own salon for the last 10+ years and it just keeps growing!
As far back as Melinda can remember, hair styling was always something that interested her. Always eager to snip something with scissors, her barbies always had short hair and she was often found cutting her own hair. Melinda was the team hairdresser in the dressing rooms at skating tests, competitions and carnivals. She learned at an early age how to roller set and pin curl her Grandmother’s hair.
Melinda grew up in Clearwater BC, just North of Kamloops on Highway 5. She moved to the big city of Kamloops in 1991 to pursue her passion for hairdressing, where she attended Headhunter’s School of Beauty. Upon graduation, Melinda worked in various salons across the province, and it wasn’t until she and her young family moved to Parksville, BC, that she really dove into her career. Melinda took a job at the ever popular Expressions in Qualicum Beach, later becoming its owner in 2001. In 2014 she stepped back from Expressions and took a 4 year hiatus before joining the Sherry Leifer Hair Design team!
In her downtime, Melinda can be found in her kitchen cooking up all sorts of recipes. Always a farm girl at heart, the chicken and duck yard is her happy place. Fresh eggs certainly are a wonderful contribution to the fresh baked desserts in the salon!
